Landscaping

Green, Composed

Landscape, planting and natural environments — master planning, softscape, hardscape and the irrigation that keeps them alive.

A garden is the one part of a property that is never finished. It grows, it fills out, and it either gets better every year or quietly gets worse. Which of those happens is decided long before anything is planted — in the levels, the drainage, the soil and the irrigation.

Aquafy Studio designs and builds landscapes across Islamabad, Rawalpindi and the surrounding valleys. We draw the space, specify the planting, build the hard elements and install the systems that keep it all alive, with our own site teams.

Where a landscape starts

Master planning. Before any planting list, the plan settles the things that are expensive to change later: where water goes, where people walk, where you will actually sit in the evening, and which views are worth keeping open.

Garden design. The same thinking at the scale of one space — a courtyard, a lawn, a roof terrace — resolved into a drawing you can build from.

Softscape

Planting schemes. Plants chosen for this climate and this aspect, grouped by how much water they want, so one zone is not being drowned to keep another alive. We plan for what the planting looks like in year five, not the week it goes in.

Lawns and turf. Graded to fall, drained, and laid on soil that has been prepared rather than levelled with rubble. Most failing lawns in this city are a drainage problem wearing a grass costume.

Vertical greenery. Green walls and climbing structures where floor space will not stretch — with the irrigation and the maintenance access designed in, because a vertical garden nobody can reach is a vertical garden that dies.

Botanical environments. Dense, layered planting designed to feel like somewhere rather than to decorate an edge.

Hardscape

Pathways and paving. Stone, tile or composite, laid to fall so water leaves the surface, on a base that will not sink at one corner in the first wet season.

Walls, steps and edges. The structural bones of a garden, and the parts that show every millimetre of bad setting-out.

Garden lighting. Low-voltage, planned around what deserves to be seen after dark rather than spread evenly across everything.

The systems underneath

Irrigation. Zoned by water demand and set on a controller, so planting is watered to a schedule rather than by whoever remembers. This is the single largest determinant of whether a garden survives its second summer.

Drainage. Falls, channels and soakaways, resolved at design stage. Water that cannot leave a garden will find the building instead.

Keeping it

We maintain what we build, and gardens we did not — seasonal pruning, planting replacement, lawn care, irrigation servicing and system checks. A maintained garden costs a fraction of a rebuilt one, and the difference shows within two seasons.

Landscaping — common questions

What does landscaping a garden cost?

It depends far more on the hard elements than on the planting. Paving, walls, steps, lighting and irrigation are where the budget goes; plants are usually a modest share of the total. A planting-only refresh is the entry point, a full design-and-build with hardscape and systems costs considerably more. We quote in writing, itemised by stage, after a site visit.

How long does a landscape project take?

A straightforward garden runs four to eight weeks on site. Hardscape drives the programme — paving, walls and steps need their bases built and cured. Planting is usually the fastest part, and we time it to the season wherever the schedule allows.

Can you work with my existing garden rather than starting again?

Yes, and often that is the better use of the budget. Mature trees and established planting are worth keeping — they are the one thing money cannot buy quickly. We survey what is there, keep what is performing, and design around it.

Do I need an irrigation system?

In this climate, for anything beyond a small courtyard, yes. Hand watering is inconsistent by nature and fails exactly when it matters, in the weeks nobody is there. A zoned automatic system costs a fraction of replacing planting that died in July.

Which plants actually survive Islamabad summers?

More than people expect, provided planting is grouped by water demand and given real soil and shade where it needs it. We specify for the aspect of your particular site — a north-facing courtyard and an exposed south lawn are different gardens, and a list that ignores that will half fail.

Can you do a rooftop or terrace garden?

Yes. Both need structural sign-off before design begins, because saturated soil is heavy, and both need waterproofing and drainage resolved under the planting rather than after it. We work with your structural engineer, or bring one in.

Do you maintain the garden afterwards?

Yes. We offer scheduled maintenance covering pruning, seasonal planting, lawn care, irrigation servicing and lighting checks — for gardens we built and for gardens we did not.
